Chocolate Oyster is a similar flavour to classic oysters but it features a different shape which is a longer meaty stem and small brown caps. Because of the shape, it's easy to pull the cluster apart into individual little mushrooms. The texture holds up when cooking making them less squishy with a more delicious bite. Chocolate Oyster prefers the cooler months so when it's autumn or winter it is the one to grow that impresses everyone at the dinner table.
This spawn is produced on-site at Urban Valley using Australian sorghum grain, autoclave sterilised at 121°C and inoculated under sterile lab conditions. Sorghum's small, round grain structure means excellent mycelial distribution and faster colonisation.
Storage: Keep refrigerated at 2 to 4°C until ready to use. Do not freeze.
Best used by: Within 8 weeks of receiving for best results.Break grains apart in bag before inoculation.
Grow conditions:
- Substrate: Compatible with straw or supplemented hardwood
- Colonisation: 20 to 24°C, 2 weeks
- Fruiting: 14 to 18°C, 85 to 95% humidity, indirect light, good airflow
- Fruiting time: 7-10 days
- Note: Chocolate Oyster loves the cool months. Autumn and winter are your best seasons for this variety.
